The task of the department of museum educators at the National Gallery of Slovenia is to popularise the art heritage. In order to cater for the needs of various target groups, it has developed relevant specific methods for effective representation to bring about a deeper understanding and a memorable experience of the older art. The department provides facilities for pre-school children (drawing, painting and modelling), organises family exhibition tours, and prepares worksheets for schoolchildren.
However, with secondary schoolchildren and adults the standard method involving discussion is used. With temporary exhibitions, there are a range of workshops, Sunday guided tours and lectures for a wider audience, and consultations for teachers and tutors. Occasionally artistic competitions for schoolchildren are held. In addition to that, videos on artistic techniques and films about artists and their work are shown.
All activities take place between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., by previous appointment only. Information about the activities can also be found in the newspaper Delo and on the radio.
The museum educators can be contacted every day from Monday till Friday between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Tel.: (01) 24 15 415, 24 15 435 - answering machine.
