Harmony of the Spheres XXIII

Concerts and lectures

Dear Friends of the National Gallery of Slovenia and the Slovenian Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra,

This season, which focuses on music from across Europe, will be opened with some “wild discoveries”, such as music by Franz Xaver Richter, Uroš Krek and Mendelssohn’s gifted elder sister Fanny Hensel. It continues with music from across the centuries by Suk, Debussy, Schubert, Handel, Jolivet, Roussel, Locatelli, Lili Boulanger, Bantock, Fuchs as well as Bartók’s masterful Divertimento. Included are also world premieres of a newly commissioned piece from Slovenian composer Tadeja Vulc and three new miniatures by talented students from the Academy of Music.

Joining us for our journey through this Harmony of the Spheres are our excellent soloists, including internationally acclaimed violinist Lana Trotovšek, beloved flutist Eva-Nina Kozmus, outstanding cellist Gal Faganel, and the winner of our second Young Soloists Competition. The final concert features the accomplished members of our ensemble in a wonderful Baroque program.

Lectures of the twenty-third season will follow the content of each concert as much as possible.  Tjaša Debeljak Duranović will introduce wild discoveries that have impressed mankind. Michel Mohor will take us with the voices of youth through the images of youth in the realist and impressionist periods. Mateja Breščak will present the Paris period of the sculptor Ivan Zajec. Andrej Smrekar will talk about the visual representations of the flatlands by Vincent van Gogh and highlands by Ivan Grohar. Sara Müller will address the bittersweet melancholy of the elegiac feeling of romantic landscapes. We shall follow Katra Meke to her adventurous trip through baroque Grand Tour.
