This Happy Day of Culture

in the National Gallery of Slovenia

Programme of Activities: Monday, 3 December 2007

10 am – 6 pm
Museum Book Fair 29 November – 3 December 2007, entrance hall
A presentation of publishing activities of Slovenian museums and galleries during the period of the last three years, as well as more significant book publications or collections during the last five years, including those that are perhaps no longer on sale. The presentation also includes the specialist libraries of Slovenian museums, their capacity and importance to the museum profession, as well as the most significant book publications that the libraries obtained through interlibrary exchanges.

10 am – 4 pm
With Book in Hand – Discovering Gallery Treasures, for children and adults
Permanent Collection, Art in Slovenia and Permanent Collection, European Paintings
We invite children and their parents to discover the Gallery’s paintings by way of printed excerpt taken from exhibited paintings. Children get a small gift for adding to the printed excerpt and drawing in the missing parts of the painting.
An activity accompanying the Museum Book Fair.

Franc Kavčič/Caucig, Paintings for the Palais Auersperg in Vienna, guided tour
exhibition area
A guided tour of the Franc Kavčič/Caucig, Paintings for the Palais Auersperg in Vienna temporary exhibition, which presents 12 unknown and unpublished oil paintings and 13 preliminary sketches and studies for them. The guided tour of the exhibition will be conducted by Tina Ponebšek.

Permanent Collection, Art in Slovenia, guided tour in English

4 pm
Kavčič's Venuses, for children and young people
exhibition area and entrance hall
An activity for children and young people as part of the Franc Kavčič/Caucig, Paintings for the Palais Auersperg in Vienna temporary exhibition, where we will be meeting the Roman Venus, and designing Venus’s hairstyle in the entrance hall. The activity will take place in collaboration with the Secondary School for Hairdressing, Ljubljana.

Books in the Depictions of European Masters, for children and families
Permanent Collection, European Paintings
An activity for children as part of the European Paintings permanent collection, where we will be looking for some paintings that portray depictions of books. An activity accompanying the Museum Book Fair.

Franc Kavčič/Caucig, Paintings for the Palais Auersperg in Vienna, guided tour 
exhibition area
A guided tour of the Franc Kavčič/Caucig, Paintings for the Palais Auersperg in Vienna temporary exhibition, which presents 12 unknown and unpublished oil paintings and 13 preliminary sketches and studies for them. The guided tour of the exhibition will be conducted by Dr. Ferdinand Šerbelj.

6 pm
How to Become a German Painter? - Lovis Corinth and National Poetics in Painting around 1900
A lecture by guest professor Dr. Michael F. Zimmermann from the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. The co-organiser of the lecture is the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, Department for Art History. A lecture will be in English.
