The National Gallery of
Slovenia is hosting the 20th annual
Conservator-Restorers' Professional Meeting which will take place virtually,
offering lectures and presentations in a safe and efficient venue. The event is organised jointly by the Slovenian
Restorers' Association, the Slovenian Museums' Association, and the National
Gallery of Slovenia.
The livestream of lectures aimed at the expert public
will take place on Monday, 19 October 2020, starting at 10am from the National
Gallery on web application Zoom. The lectures will focus on the analysis of
developments in the field of conservation and restoration in the last twenty
years.
The general public will be
able to learn more about past and ongoing projects through virtual
presentations that will be exhibited between 20–30 October 2020 in the
mezzanine of the National Gallery (Entrance Hall, Prešernova 24). The
exhibition will be open every day except Mondays, from 10am to 6pm, Thursdays
until 8pm. Admission to this exhibition is free. The exhibition will also be accesible on the website of the Slovenian

The professional
meeting is part of the 13th Conservation-Restoration Transversal, a
number of events between 18 June and 30 November 2020 which bring together
representatives of the profession and all those interested in cultural

The poster exhibition presents
numerous recent projects. Worth mentioning among them is the conservation project of Coptic textile fragments,
which have been exposed to adverse climatic conditions for centuries. As concerns the treatment of works
on paper, there is an interesting research on traditional techniques of making
marbled paper. We also highlight the interventions on heavily deformed
paintings on jute canvas. The treatment of Madonna and Child tried to restore
the sculpture to its original appearance from the early 16th century.
A demanding intervention on the metal archangel Mihael
from Piran is presented, whose right wing was broken off in 2019. We also point
out to the rushed and reckless interventions of investors in the historic
buildings of old Ljubljana, resulting in loss of old decorative wall paintings.
The renovation has also awoken a picturesque Russian dacha, a rural villa in
Zgornje Gameljne.
