Children and Families
Families and children can choose from a wide
range of activities. You are kindly invited to actively spend some of your
leisure time in front of the gallery paintings.
The activities are usually conducted in the Slovenian language, however, we are happy to organise tours, workshops and birthdays in foreign languages. Please note that in such a case bookings should be made at least 14 days in advance. Please contact the Department for Education for details on which languages are currently available.
For Families
Saturday Creative Workshops
On Saturdays you are invited to a creative
mornings in the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions.
In the workshop we get to know a work of art
and explore what it depicts, who created it and how, what story it is hiding
and more. Clues like objects, sounds, smells and riddles lead us to the work
and we also prepare worksheets for those who are eager to learn even more.
After the first part spent among the works of art we make our way to the
workshop, where we create our own drawings and paintings. See the announcements
by clicking here.
Multi-sensory Activities
We organize the tours of exhibitions and the
activities during which we do not rely only on our sight and hearing but wish
to include all our other senses. Activities are thus available to people with
sensory disabilities. Multi-sensory activities are free of charge!
Multi-sensory creative activities are conducted in the Slovenian language.
Gal's Green Chest
To independently explore the works of art, borrow
the Dwarf's green chest free of charge in the museum shop. Walk through the
permanent collection Art in Slovenia and discover the secrets of the paintings
from Prešeren's time. The Dwarf has put a guide into the chest, together with
colouring pages and objects that make the search for works of art and their
study fun and educative.
For Children
Holiday Activities

gallery organizes creative workshops dedicated to unique and interesting
subjects.
The activities are conducted in the Slovenian language.
Gal's Club

ages of 6 to 14. Membership in Gal's Club includes free entrance into the

GAL-a Birthday Celebration
Celebrate with Gal the Dwarf in the National
Gallery of Slovenia. Gal writes a card to the birthday boy or girl and gives
him or her a book as a birthday gift, while each guest receives a piece of
magical chocolate.
Celebration lasts about two hours. The parents
are responsible for food and drinks.
The Dwarf's Chest (age 5–7)
Gal lends his green chest where he stores
mysterious objects – loud, fragrant and tempting to touch. To which works of
art will these objects lead us? Then we make our way to the gallery workshop
where gal-a feast awaits. After refreshments we make a dwarf's chest for the
birthday boy or girl and fill it with the most beautiful birthday wishes.
Goldhorn's Kingdom (age 8–10)
In the gallery we are introduced to the magical
creatures from folk tales. We get to know Hrust the Giant, how Veronika, the
Countess of Kamnik, was punished for her avarice, at who were the moonlight-dancing
elves of Bled angry and why the Goldhorn used his golden horns to destroy the
alpine paradise under Triglav. We make puppets and recreate the ever-popular
Slovene tale of the regal protector of the mountains.
Mythological Heroines and Heroes (age 11–13)
We get to know the Greek gods through role-playing.
What did Prometheus do to be punished so horribly, into which animal was the
insolent Actaeon changed by the goddess Artemis, which goddess was chosen to be
the most beautiful and how did Apollo mischievously punish the talkative king
Midas? We tell the mythological stories and recreate them in the style of
Ancient Greek theatre.
